This is a Practice of Mindfulness
You are cultivating and refining your attention and awareness. There are no memorized steps to learn as you are discovering your own style and movement within these five rhythms or patterns of energy. No 5Rhythms, or any other dance, exercises, or movement experience is required. All that is required is a sense of curiosity, openness, and willingness to move.
Classes are Spontaneous, Meaningful, and Fun
You will generally dance to music. The music is wide ranging (e.g. world, jazz, rock, classical, new age, pop) and could be from any genre.
The purpose of the class is to encourage movement. Drop-ins are always very welcome, and every class is unique.
You do not need to have been to any previous class to benefit from the teachings. Each weekly session is self-contained and you can learn from any class you are in.
Adults of All Ages are Very Welcome
All of the classes and workshops are open to anyone and any body; any size, shape, fitness level, age. The classes are held in an accessible dance space (level entrance with no stairs) and are adaptable for all injury and disability.
The motto really is: Be yourself … everyone else is taken. Please come as you are, in any stage of health or recovery.
What to Bring and Wear
Please wear layers. When the class starts you may be cold and then when you start to warm up you may take off layers. Your base layer (the one against your skin) should be cool enough to be used if you sweat and made for movement. Many people move in bare feet but you can also wear clean running or dance shoes.
It would also be useful to bring a one litre re-useable water bottle filled with water.
