Healing in motion.

Occupational therapy tackles more than mobility. It digs into who we are.

Rethinking OT

I’m a practicing occupational therapist and the founder of Magma Rehabilitation — a company dedicated to enriching the lives of clients in the community: in homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, workplaces, and sometimes on the streets.

People tend to focus on the physical aspect of occupational therapy (OT) — on mobility, ergonomics, home safety and adaptive aids. It’s a big part of what I do, but it’s not the whole picture. The potential of OT is so much more.

From mental health and trauma therapy, to prolonged exposure and return to work recovery, I offer a deeper spin on rehabilitation.

As my client, I meet you where you are: emotionally, physically — even soulfully — and help you grow from that place.

I make space for your unique talents and abilities, and work with you to adapt your patterns and behaviors so you can better tolerate newness, discomfort and change. I witness. I stand alongside. I lead and follow, as needed.

I move easily with you, even if you're angry, stuck or scared. Together, we push at the edges to enlarge your comfort zone.

We are all on a journey, and there are so many ways we can heal and grow to fully inhabit our lives.

I invite you to move with me.

Words from clients

“Anne Marie was part of my treatment team as I worked through recovery from PTSD. I worked for 20 years as a Police 911 operator and succumbed to the constant exposer to trauma. When I started working with Anne Marie I felt completely broken. I did not believe I could be well again or even experience joy in my life. At times I struggled to find the energy to live. Anne Marie taught me that emotion is energy that needs to be acknowledged, supported, and allowed to move through your body, not avoided. She led me through meditations and took me to locations I feared would trigger my PTSD.  She taught me how to work through episodes and to see things in a different light.  This enabled me to let go of fear and live with more confidence. I continue to use the skills Anne Marie taught me when I come up against life challenges. I am now able to live with joy again. Anne Marie is honest, grounded, real, and exudes strength.  As I travel through life, I sometimes ask myself ‘What would Anne Marie say!’ With Gratitude, Darlene”

“Anne Marie came to me at a time of dire psychologist distress. Her professional expertise and understanding of me, and the challenges I was facing, helped set me on the path towards recovery. Anne Marie could read and gauge my thoughts and actions, know when the right time was to give a gentle push, but also was perceptive to my internal struggles and was right there to help me with grounding exercises and to provide invaluable lessons for coping and self kindness. Thank you Anne Marie! - Erika”

If I could share some thoughts I have on working with Anne Marie as an occupational therapist, the first thing that comes to mind is the honesty from her that the process is hard work. Acknowledging the emotional difficulty of addressing memories of events that have caused harm is validating and I found helped me to be courageous in sharing.  It helped to have a person walk through with me who knows that the other side will be better.  I appreciated the tangible progress of setting goals for exposure, and checking in with her weekly to review the work that I was doing.  We were able to celebrate successes, be honest about what remained a struggle, and plan steps to face and be comfortable in environments that previously caused discomfort.  We were able to tailor the amount of weekly sessions and homework so that I was challenged, but not completely overwhelmed.  I felt this helped me to really participate in my healing and take time to recover from challenging days as needed.  I felt very supported and heard. - Cheryl”
